The World of Charity
Jack Spigler & Noah Hazan
Our sculpture represents the sacred time of giving charity. We decided to show the meaning using a coin spreading light through the world. As the coin rolls through the track it slowly by slowly lights up the LEDs on the continents. To us, one of the main ideas of Judaism is to try to act in the image of God. Since God created all of us in God’s image we should spend our life trying to live like God and do all the mitzvot. We decides that we would use these LEDs to represent God. God is symbolized as a symbol of light and pureness. So when the people of the earth do acts of charity they become sparks of light just like God. The coin represents the act of charity and as it goes through the track it helps to light up more and more people bringing them closer to God. The track helps to spread the message that doing charitable acts can help spread love throughout the world. As the coin or charity moves through the track it is able to move around the whole board and help light up the world. One interesting aspect of our design is the amount of time the lights will stay on for. The lights will soon turn off after the coin goes by to the next stop. This represents the idea that in order for the light to last it needs to be a constant supply of charity that continues to occur and not just once in order to keep the lights on. We chose this design because doing charity are things that reside with us. When we are able to do charity it makes us feel better about ourselves and close to God.
