Peace And Justice Within Your Gates
Marlena Shamah, Leo Gorenstein
In our piece we have depicted a set of scales with a dove balanced on top inside of a gated garden. The scales represent justice and the dove represents peace. When the bird is on the scales, they are balanced. However, when the bird is taken off, the scales fall out of balance. Tha garden shows that when peace and justice are in harmony, the world and society can bloom and flourish. Our piece was inspired by a Pasuk from Zechariah.
"דַּבְּר֤וּ אֱמֶת֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־רֵעֵ֔הוּ אֱמֶת֙ וּמִשְׁצַּ֣ט שָׁל֔בֿם שִׁפְט֖וּ בְּשַׁעֲרֵיכֶםֽ׃" זכריה ח : טז
“These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to one another, render true and peaceful justice in your gates.” Zechariah 8:16
Our piece reflects this passage because we can see how peace and justice perfectly balance each other within these gates. Without peace, justice cannot exist, and without justice, peace cannot exist. While they may sometimes come in conflict sometimes, peace and justice will always end up balancing each other out.
To make our piece, we used a few different resources. To create the gates and the scales, we used Tinkercad to design and 3D print. The ground is made of felt and the flowers are made of paper, and the dove is made from paper. Through this project, we honed our skills on Tinkercad and learned how to incorporate Hebrew texts into our work. We also learned how to better plan a detailed project. Throughout the course of this project, we had to change how we were going to make the dove. At first we were going to use Tinkercad, however the concept was too detailed for us to create on the website. In the end, we used paper, which worked much better. Additionally, it took a long time to make the justice scale as they had to be measured perfectly. Despite the few bumps in the road, creating this project we learned a lot and really enjoyed the process.
