Cycle of Jewish Holiday
Adin Kahan & Ariel Greenberg

Our piece represents many of the holidays in Judaism and a symbol to go along with them. For example, for sukkot we built a sukkah. Our quote is elevated on a black platform in the center of the septagon. It is split up into two parts, english and hebrew. The quote is from ויקראhttps://www.sefaria.org/Leviticus.23.4?ven=The_Contemporary_Torah,_Jewish_Publication_Society,_2006&vhe=Tanach_with_Ta%27amei_Hamikra&lang=bi&aliyot=0כ״ג:ד.

These are the set times of ה, the sacred occasions, which you shall celebrate each at its appointed time: “

In the middle of it we have two candles on fire that were 3d printed, they are shabbat candles. The black circle is not exactly in the middle to show how the jewish calendar is not always the same. Directly to the right there is a large green sukkah representing sukkot. Going clockwise there is a fish and an apple representing Rosh Hashanah. Both are ceremonial foods on Rosh Hashanah. The fish head says fish head on it, while that apple says apple. Right next to it is another ceremonial food, albeit for a different holiday. Then, continuing clockwise there is a Seder Plate and matzah for Passover. The matzah is on one of the five circles that were engraved in the Seder Plate. The Seder Plate is painted white because many Seder Plates are white. Going Clockwise there are two symbols for Hanukkah. There is a Hanukiah and a Latke. The Hanukiah is approximately 5 inches tall and yellow. The latke is directly next to the hanukkiah. It is cut out of wood. Finally for shavuot we made a fruit basket with some apples on it.

This design process was a challenge for us that required lots of steps to get to the end product. First we had to brainstorm an idea based on a Jewish text, and then come up with a way to show it in a design process that included building and designing in CorelDraw and in Tinkercad. This was very fun but also stressful at times to try and finish the project within the deadline, and having much to do. We have deeply enjoyed this assignment and open our arms to problem solving and thinking outside the box challenges. This was one of those challenges because of all the steps and processes needed to complete the project.

Here are the steps we had to go through to complete this assignment. First we had to think of a topic and a good quote to use, surprisingly, this took lots of time. Then we had to draw and assemble and set in stone our idea. Then we had to design it in CorelDraw and Tinkercad. This took the majority of our time because if we messed up the scale or design by even a small factor, we would have to redo the entire piece of the project which takes time, and it happened often. Thirdly, we had to assemble, and with 4 weeks left, it was very stressful and time consuming. We eventually finished with hours left until the deadline, and spent extra time working on it so it would work and be good. We have gone through every step of the design process from start to finish, and we have learned a lot about design thinking and enjoyed this project.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN ELEMENTS

Students utilized industry standard 3D modeling software, Fusion 360, to model elements of their artwork. Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D modeling software platform for product design and manufacturing. Typically used to design and engineer products to ensure aesthetics, form, fit, and function.
