Our motivation was to really capture the tension between peace and truth. We used peace and truth as exact opposites. For peace, it is shown as calm, and easy, and simple. We used the color light purple since it is known to be a peaceful and dreamier color. In contrast, we used a mirror to represent the truth. The truth is jagged and sharp but at the same time, very clear. The truth is often hard to deal with and most of the time people just want to ignore the truth within themselves. The mirror shows your reflection which encompasses the idea that the most important truth is your own. We also included a quote from Zecharia 8:16. “Speak the truth to one another, render true and perfect peace in your gates.”. This quote is saying that in order to find peace, you must be truthful to yourself and to others. This is why there is such tension between peace and truth. It is so difficult to be able to accept your current reality and understand that what is actually happening is okay. In order to accept your reality and find peace within yourself, you must be able to find truth in yourself first.
Our piece looks similar to how we wanted it to look in the original design. The gates that enclose our quote is not the color we intended it to be; they will be two different shades. These multi-colored gates have come to represent the turmoil of life. Peace and truth, are important concepts, but they are all within the varied aspects of life. Other than that, the design is printed design is how we wanted it. The only other thing we were hoping for was that mirror would be double-sided. We wanted this effect in order to make it so you could see yourself no matter how you look at our piece. This would have made it so that the viewers could get a better understanding that the truth is really lying within themselves. But, overall we are very pleased with how our design has turned out as it has met all of our expectations.
