Truth and Peace
Arm in Arm

Annie Katz

When looking at the story of Moses raising his arms in the battle against the Amalekites, described in Exodus 17:11-12, there is a powerful symbol that resonates with us even today. Moses, a respected figure renowned for his wisdom and leadership, embodies the pursuit of truth and peace. By extending one arm with the word "truth" and the other with "peace," this visual metaphor reveals how these values, when united, possess the strength to overcome both physical adversaries and abstract challenges. It reminds us that truth and peace are inseparable, and when they work together, they can bring about triumph and harmony in our lives and communities in the modern world.

I began by painting a mountain landscape on a cardboard box and hot gluing felt onto a piece of wood I cut, to represent the hill Moses stood on nearby the battle. Next, I 3D printed a Moses figure I created in Tinkercad and tied threads through his arms so they could raise when tugged. Eventually, I painted details on Moses and created Amelek warriors so that the army collapses when you pull the ropes to lift Moses' arms.
