Joseph and His Brothers

Truth and Peace Essay

For our project we chose to connect the story of Joseph and his brother throwing him into a pit to truth and peace. Our art piece is a 3D printed pit which represents the pit the brothers threw Joseph in. On the bottom of the pit there are snakes made out of clay. We did this because the text says there were snakes and scorpions in the bottom of the pit. The connection of this story to truth and peace is that the brothers told a lie to their father after they threw their brother into a pit. They did this because if their father found out that they killed Joseph , his favorite son he would be incredibly sad. By lying to their father and telling him that a bloody beast devoured him they didn't have to worry about losing their peace with their father. Another connection to peace in this story is that when the brothers threw Joseph into a pit they decided not to kill him. Instead, they chose to throw him into a pit which led him to being sold to the egyptians. This shows peace because they still didn't want to kill their brother because they still had a little sense of peace for him. For the project we used text from Genesis 37: 18-34

For our project we used many different tools. Our project has a 3D printed base surrounded by wood. On the wood we laser printed the text from the Torah we used to help us make our project. We also used a lot of hot glue to hold everything together and also used some wood glue. On the bottom of the project there are snakes. These snakes are made out of clay and represent all the animals that were at the bottom of the pit that Joseph was thrown into. There is also a human which is falling into the pit. This human is Joseph because he was thrown into the pit by his brothers. To make the human we used clay and then a lot of hot glue to keep it together and prevent it from falling apart. This is the story of how we made our project and the motivation behind us doing this project.
