The Complex of Justice
Alex Nehrer, Micah Frenkel, Daphna Pincus

The Complex of Justice is an art piece meant to capture the three main ideals in a healthy inclusive well rounded justice system. Presented in front of you are three buildings in one community, all representing three core values in the justice system. The first building is covered in mirrors to capture the reflection of truth. Mirrors reflect the truth and nothing else, a mirror can’t reflect a person that never appeared in front of it. Which symbolises in this piece mirrored truth, a vital aspect of justice. The second building has a blindfold on it to encapsulate the value of blind justice with no bias. Our idea for this building was derived from the woman on the symbol of the justice department's logo, she has a blindfold on to symbolize the idea of no bias in the justice system. The third and last building is the product of the values of the other two buildings working together in unity. When Justice is blind and not biased, working with mirrored truthfulness can create a healthy medium of peace. In this piece, the idea of peace is captured by the tree of peace from the torah. The benches in the center of this artwork are small but welcoming, to represent the inclusivity of justice.

On the platform of our work is a quote from Zecharia 8:16 -

In english - Rabban Shimon ben Gamaliel used to say: on three things does the world stand: On justice, on truth and on peace, as it is said: “execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates”. We made sure to capture these three concepts of truth, justice, and peace on a healthy scale of these three buildings. While justice is complicated and messy, we tried to exemplify how when all at a healthy and honest point the justice system can work together and see success.
