The Locked Heart
Sarah Kira & Ester Golan
With this project we used Negative space and shapes to show multiple concepts in Shmuel aleph. For Principles of design we are using Contrast and Emphasis. We are using the contrast in our color and negative space to emphasize Peninahs empty head and Chana's empty heart which she is investing into her siddur. In Shemuel aleph we are told that Chana spends her sacred time davening to God. She is investing her heart into God as they just watch. Peninah works to hurt Chana but her head is empty and her words are empty. We used simple shapes and negative space to describe all of the emotions that Chana is feeling. While her heart is locked, the person she loves and the being she trusts just watches her pain and sadness. Our locked heart is 3d printed to express that it is locked in a box, and that it doesn't fit in the box since it’s too big because of her emotion and love for having a child. Her “locked heart” will never be let free until she has the happiness she deserves in having a child.
