Scroll of Peace
Ester Khanimov, Illyana Spitz, Yakira Sanker

Our names are Yakira Sanker, Illyana Spitz, and Ester Khanimov.

To represent the theme of Peace and truth we found the following quote. Our quote is from Shemot 24:7.

It says ֽ

וַּיִקח ספר הברית וַּיִקָ֖ראבׇאזֵ֣ני הָ֑עם וַּ֣יֹאמרּו כֹל  אשר־ ִּדֶּ֥ברה נֲַעשה וְנִשָמע

This translates into “Then he took the record of the covenant and read it aloud to the people. And they said, “All that ה has spoken we will faithfully do!”

This represents the harmony of truth and peace because we were all at peace at Matan Torah when we said Naaseh V’nishma. We were truthful to Hashem then when we accepted the Torah. We are always truthful and loyal to Hashem in all the decisions He makes, even if they do not feel good right now.

To represent the harmony of Truth and Peace as depicted in our quote we decided to make a Torah scroll with an ear and a computer. The ear is for the nishma, that we will listen to everything Hashem says. The Computer is for the naase, that we will do everything Hashem tells us, just like we do a lot of things on the computer. We 3D designed and printed the computer with the word DO on it.

We used pool noodles for the sides of the Torah and we used coffee paper for the scroll so it looks old. We used wooden rods to hold up the pool noodles and used felt for the flowers. We used cotton balls for the purple mist, as the midrash says there was purple mist covering Har Sinai.

The hardest part was that originally we made the Torah scroll too tall and had to cut it to fit the size requirements. Also spray painting the pool noodles was hard and they started to peel, so we used gold markers instead.

Although we envisioned our project differently, we are proud of the way our project turned out. We had to change some things based on what was not working, but we think it worked out well in the end.
